How the calculator works

Your month today

CV review is the applications times the seconds per CV. Booking is the screening calls times the minutes it takes to agree a time, including reschedules. The calls are the screening calls times their length.

With Firstview

Firstview scores every CV against the role's criteria and gives a reason for each score. Candidates start their AI interview when they are ready, so nobody books a call. Your team still reads the scored CVs and the interview reports, at the time you enter.

The starting numbers

The $40 hourly cost is close to the US mean wage of HR specialists, $39.42 in May 2025 (BLS), without benefits. The time values are our estimates, including the time to check a scored CV and read a report, so replace them with your own numbers. A working week counts as 40 hours.

Questions about screening time

What is a screening call?

A screening call is a short first conversation, usually by phone or video, that checks a candidate's must-haves, motivation and basic fit before the team spends time on longer interviews.

How long should a screening call be?

15 to 30 minutes for most roles. Spend the first few minutes on must-haves such as location, work hours and salary range, then ask two or three experience questions with follow-ups, and end with the next steps.

How do you reduce time spent screening candidates?

Agree the criteria before the first CV is read, ask must-have questions first, and remove the steps that need a person in real time, such as booking calls. Scoring CVs against the criteria and letting candidates take a first interview whenever they are ready removes most of the hours.

How does an AI interview save screening time?

The candidate starts the interview when they are ready, so nobody books a call. Firstview's AI Interviewer runs a live voice interview in the candidate's language, asks follow-up questions when part of an answer is missing and grades each answer against the role's criteria, quoting the candidate. The recruiter reads the report and decides who moves on.

What does the calculator leave out?

It counts CV review, booking and screening calls only. Later interviews, offers and the days candidates wait between steps are not in the total, so the real time spent on hiring is higher.
