AI technical interviews
Technical first rounds that go past the buzzwords.
In-depth AI technical interviews with follow-ups in the moment, CV experience read project by project, and one evaluation standard from the first round to the CTO.

140 CVs for one backend role, and it’s only Monday.
The engineering manager reads CVs that all list the same stack: Java, Kubernetes, PostgreSQL. Only a first call shows who has really used it, so senior engineers spend their week in screening calls instead of building. By Friday, three interviewers have written three sets of notes that don’t line up.
Technical hiring, before and with Firstview
Technical roles take nearly twice the interview hours of business roles, and 10 weeks to a first hire instead of 8. Meanwhile 65% of hiring managers have caught applicants using AI deceptively, such as reading from AI-generated scripts.

|---|---|---|
| Finding engineers | Searching job boards and LinkedIn, profile by profile. | Describe the engineer you need. Firstview searches your talent pool first, then the web. |
| CV keywords | “Java” on a CV says nothing about how it was used. | Firstview reads where each technology was used, in which projects and at what scale. |
| Engineer time | Senior engineers spend hours on first rounds. | The AI runs an in-depth first technical round and writes a detailed technical report. |
| Depth | First calls stop at the buzzwords. | Follow-ups in the moment: an example, a clearer explanation, or another question on the same topic. |
| AI cheating | With AI one tab away, remote technical rounds are hard to keep fair. | Integrity rules applied while the interview runs. |
| Non-technical recruiters | Recruiters need an engineer to read a technical answer. | The interview report and the Notetaker judge how strong each answer was. |
| Team interview consistency | The team lead, engineering manager and CTO each judge differently. | Every team interview is written up against the same criteria, in the same template. |
| Repeated questions | The CTO asks what the manager already asked. | Each interview report and Notetaker write-up lists the questions asked and the areas still open, so the next interview covers new ground. |
| Comparing candidates | Notes scattered across docs and people’s memory. | Interview reports side by side, with every recording on file. |
| Candidate questions | Recruiters field questions about remote work and the stack. | The AI answers them, using only the facts you approve. |
An AI technical interview your engineers would run.
Follow-ups that dig
When an answer is thin, it follows up in the moment: it asks for an example, asks what the candidate meant, or tries another question on the same topic. It does not interrupt a candidate who is still thinking.
Experience that counts
A CV that lists Kubernetes because the job post did is evaluated on the systems the person ran in each job: in which projects, and at what scale.
Verdicts with quotes
Every criterion links to the candidate’s words and the moment they said them.
Team interview notes in one template
The Notetaker evaluates your team interview in the Technical Design or Question-by-Question template.
Senior Data Engineer, Orbit Tech
Only the experience the person used counts.
Each criterion is checked job by job. A tool listed in skills but never used in a role is not counted.
- Checked job by job
- Skills-only tools are not counted
- A reason next to every criterion
See what the candidate said, and where.
Each verdict carries the candidate’s words and the moment they said them. A partial answer shows which follow-up it came from.
- Quotes on every verdict
- A time stamp for each answer
- Follow-ups linked to partial answers
Team interview notes that line up.
The Notetaker joins the team interview and fills the Technical Design template from the recording, with the right name on every line. It judges how strong each answer was, so a recruiter without a technical background can still read the result.
- Joins the team interview
- Fills the Technical Design template
- The right name on every line
One standard, from CV to CTO
The criteria you set are used to evaluate every CV and run through the AI interview. Then the Notetaker joins each team interview, from the team lead to the CTO, and writes an evaluation in the same template: the questions asked, how the candidate answered and the areas still open.
Nobody takes notes during the call, the next interviewer picks up where the last one stopped, and the team can compare candidates side by side.
Questions tech teams ask
Can AI run the technical screening interview?
Yes. Firstview’s AI runs an in-depth technical interview by voice: it asks questions drafted from the role, follows up in the moment when an answer is thin, and reads the CV project by project. Each verdict links to the candidate’s words, so your engineers only join for the candidates worth a team interview.
How long can an interview be?
You set the length, up to 60 minutes, which leaves room for in-depth technical follow-ups.
How does CV evaluation work?
Firstview reads each CV job by job and counts only the experience the person used in a role, so a tool listed in skills but never used does not count. It explains the result for each criterion and marks unclear CVs for human review.
Does the AI look at the candidate’s face?
No. Firstview does not analyze faces and does not evaluate candidates on video.
Does it run coding tests?
No. The AI runs an in-depth technical interview through conversation and writes a detailed technical report on the candidate. Use your own coding test or team interview for hands-on work.
Can the AI interview cover our tech stack?
Yes. Firstview drafts technical questions from the role, and you can approve them, edit them or add your own. When an answer is thin, the AI follows up or asks another question on the same topic.
Can candidates use AI to cheat during the interview?
Firstview applies integrity rules while the interview runs: the whole screen shared, full screen, camera on and staying on the interview tab. If a rule breaks, the interview pauses.
Can recruiters without a technical background use the reports?
Yes. The interview report and the Notetaker’s evaluation explain how strong each answer was and why.
Does it replace our technical team interviews?
No. It runs the first round, so your engineers spend their time on the candidates worth a team interview. The Notetaker then writes up each team interview in your template.
